Imagine your sweet house pet living its entire life in a small excrement-filled wire cage, one stacked upon another, living in filth, sick, malnourished, lacking adequate water, exposed to the elements, no soft place to lay down, no place to look for comfort, no immunizations, no vet care, desperately lonely, aching for love, security, warmth and compassion. This is life in a puppy mill for dogs that are bred over and over and over in a multi-million dollar industry involving thousands upon thousands of dogs.

Most of us don't want to think about it or learn about it. It's too horrible and heartbreaking. But there is a solution. Don't buy puppies from pet stores. They're sold to stores through brokers who buy them at too young an age from puppy mills or other unscrupulous commercial breeders. Buy only from reputable breeders or adopt from a local shelter or rescue group.
